If you've noticed the scent of ginger, garlic and incense drifting through town this week, there's a good reason.

This Saturday from 6pm, The Golden Lotus will host the inaugural Feng Shui Dim Sim Festival, an evening promising lucky dim sims, prosperity noodles and enough positive energy to realign even the most chaotic household.

For locals, the festival is simply the latest chapter in the long story of one of Dabney Meadows' most beloved family businesses.

Herbert and Vera Lom have been running The Golden Lotus for nearly twenty years after taking over from Herbert's parents, who first established the restaurant decades ago. In that time, the couple have become something of a local institution.

"We wanted to create an event that brings people together," Herbert said while arranging lanterns in the restaurant. "Good food, good company and a little bit of harmony for the soul."

Many residents know Herbert not only for his cooking but also for his work as a certified Reiki master. His weekly Reiki classes have attracted everyone from stressed parents to curious retirees.

"People come in carrying all sorts of worries," he explained. "Sometimes they leave feeling lighter. Sometimes they just leave feeling hungry."

Early risers may also have spotted Herbert leading tai chi sessions in King's Park, where a small group gathers most mornings to practice slow, flowing movements before the town fully wakes up.

Meanwhile, Vera has built a devoted following through her feng shui counselling business. Residents regularly seek her advice on everything from furniture placement to relationship woes.

"A surprising number of problems improve when people stop putting their couch in front of the door," Vera laughed. "Energy needs room to move."

As part of the festival, guests will be invited to enter through the eastern doors of the restaurant for "maximum fortune and digestive balance." Visitors can expect a menu featuring traditional dim sims, prosperity noodles and a few special dishes created exclusively for the evening.

And yes, in true Golden Lotus fashion, there is one important rule: No outside soy sauce permitted.

When asked why, Herbert simply smiled, "Some traditions should not be questioned."

Whether you're a believer in feng shui, a fan of dim sims, or just looking for a memorable night out, the Lom family hopes the festival will become a new fixture on the Dabney Meadows calendar.

"Our parents built this business on the idea of feeding the community," Vera said. "We're just continuing that tradition — with a little extra luck thrown in."

The Feng Shui Dim Sim Festival takes place this Saturday from 6pm at The Golden Lotus. Guests are encouraged to arrive hungry, wear comfortable clothing and leave any scepticism at the door.

After all, in Dabney Meadows, stranger things have happened.
